The Brightness of Being Bethany | Meet Bethany S. #SetTheTableIntern

“Comparison is the thief of all joy.”

This statement is the embodiment and fuel for Bethany English Simpson. A young adolescent woman who is close to graduating highschool and entering the realm of paths and social landscaping. She’s an inspiring writer who is exceptionally bright and proper, a natural opportunist for life long lessons and a face of many academic achievements. 

Her heart is pure with intentions of helping those around her such as other vulnerable kids to young adolescent moms. “Community organizing - particularly around gender, racial, and environmental justice - is a vocation I feel called towards.” As she stated, most of her time is spent volunteering within a school club called “Interact Club”. This club holds in school and outschool events for young children to enjoy themselves. Furthermore, her creativity aspects in journalism blossoms as she is a frequent writer always applying to literary journals and different programs. One significant program that highlights her success as a writer is the Youth Alliance of Arts and Writers award, where one of her pieces of work was awarded a silver key - equivalent to a silver medal. Additionally, her poetry piece was displayed in an arts insulation building in downtown chicago. She desires to expand her writing career past highschool.

“After I graduate high school, my intention is to relocate to New York and pursue internships amongst other opportunities there within the fields of professional writing and ecological anthropology.” She also mentions professions,“In five years time, I hope to be a published author continuing to build my craft and nurture novellas, investigative journalism, personal essays, and poetry. “

With a strong work ethic, curiosity driven mindset and an insatiable craving for literature, Bethany finds inspiration in stable novels. A prime example is the novel Beloved by Toni Morrison that dabbles into the social and philosophical ideas that resonate with Bethany. Similarly, this carries into her love for soul linking poetry. Bethany’s constant seeking of new perspectives through reading is driven by a relentless pursuit of opportunities. Bethany has a passion to embrace challenges and is always looking for ways to grow, connect, and make a meaningful impact.
