Meet Skye E | #SetTheTableInterns

"You can't get it all unless you give it your all."

For Skye, this isn't just a quote, it’s the foundation of everything she does. She’s learned that success doesn’t come easy, it takes hard work, dedication, and a real commitment. To her, there are no shortcuts to success. It’s about showing up, putting in the effort, and staying passionate, even when the results aren’t immediate. Skye strongly believes that consistency is what makes the difference. If you give everything you’ve got, no matter how long it takes, it will all pay off in the end.

I asked Skye to elaborate and dive deeper into her mindset and what keeps her so motivated to keep going.

Brooklyn: Can you share what that quote means to you and why it stands out so much?

Skye: I’ve always believed that if you really want something, whether it’s a big goal, a dream, or even just a small win, you can’t just show up and expect it to happen. You’ve gotta give it your all every single time. Like if you don’t put in the effort and stay consistent, the results just won’t match up. But even on those tough days when it feels like you’re not making progress, if you keep pushing, the hard work will always pay off, and you’ll look back and be proud of what you’ve done.

Brooklyn: I love that! Thank you for sharing that piece of advice Skye. Okay moving onto the next question. If you had to describe yourself beyond just a name, how would you introduce who you are?

Skye:  If I had to describe myself beyond just my name, I’d say I’m someone who values both logical thinking and creativity, with emotional intelligence being a big part of who I am. I consider myself a thinker, someone who looks at things from different perspectives and takes the time to make connections and understand the world more deeply. When I look at something like biology, I don’t just take in the surface-level details. I’m more interested in how it connects to other areas, such as geology or marine biology. For me, it’s all about understanding the bigger picture. I believe that when you can recall and connect concepts, not just memorize them, you can apply them in creative ways to solve real problems.

As someone on the autism spectrum, emotional intelligence is something I truly value. It helps me understand others' emotions and navigate relationships more effectively, making it easier for me to connect with people and make sense of different situations.I’ve learned that while logic is important, it’s equally crucial to understand and control emotions, whether they’re mine or someone else’s, in order to maintain balance and harmony in how I interact with others.

Creativity is a big part of who I am. I often find inspiration from art and music, noticing how different movements or emotions can be captured in a work of art. These ideas come to life as drawings or other forms of creative work that I put down on paper. It’s how I create something that can resemble something.  I’ve realized that feedback from others is important for my growth. I’m always open to constructive criticism because it helps me view things in new ways and pushes me to continuously improve.

So, if I had to introduce myself, I’d say I’m a logical thinker, a creative thinker, and someone who really values emotional intelligence together, these traits shape my perspective on life and the way I face challenges, whether they’re in my personal life or in the  in the things I’m passionate about.

Brooklyn: I really like how much thought you've put into understanding your strengths and how they shape your life. It’s clear that logic, creativity, and emotional intelligence play a big role in how you see things.

Skye: In five years, I see myself finishing up college, if all goes well. I’ll be wrapping up my studies, and as long as nothing like financial struggles, academic setbacks, or personal challenges gets in my way, I’ll be on track. By then, I’ll be so much better at drawing and technology, I'll be refining those skills and gaining a clearer vision of the path I want to take in life, which is starting my own gaming company.

I’ll still have plenty to learn, especially in game design, but I’m excited about the journey ahead. I’m planning on getting my bachelor’s degree at FIT, hopefully, praise the Lord, and I can’t wait to dive into their game design and animation major. It’s the perfect fit for me.

I want to be able to design and engineer games, creating worlds and experiences that people can enjoy. Ultimately, my dream is to create my own games and turn that passion into a sustainable career. Making a living doing what I love—there’s nothing more fulfilling than that. This is more than just a career for me; it’s my passion, my drive, and I’m going to make it happen.

Brooklyn: I truly wish the best luck! I’ve seen your artwork and it's pretty cool. Moving on, During this internship what do you look forward to in working with the dinner table?

Skye: During this internship, I’m really looking forward to strengthening my resume and enhancing my chances for future employment. I’m excited to develop key skills like networking and professionalism that will set me apart in the long run. I’m also eager to sharpen my leadership, public speaking, and communication abilities. While I feel confident in these areas, I recognize there’s always room for growth, and I’m determined to improve. Overall, I’m excited to learn new skills, expand my experience, and further build my profile to ensure I’m well-prepared for the future.

Brooklyn: Awesome. I'm looking forward to that also. Now to wrap things up I want to ask you one more question, if you could go back and give yourself, your younger self, one piece of advice, what would it be and why?

Skye: If I could go back and give my younger self one piece of advice, it would be to just be present. While it's important to prepare for the future and work towards your goals, it's equally important to take time for yourself and truly live in the moment. Not everything needs to be taken so seriously all the time. It's easy to get caught up in planning and striving, but enjoying life as it unfolds is just as crucial. At the same time, I would remind myself to stay consistent with my efforts. Balance is key. Enjoy the journey, but don’t forget to keep moving forward.

Brooklyn: That’s such a powerful piece of advice. It’s easy to get lost in the future and forget to enjoy the present moment. Finding that balance between being mindful of where you’re headed and still appreciating where you are right now is so important. It’s like saying, “Keep your eyes on the road ahead, but don’t forget to enjoy the view.” Staying consistent while allowing yourself to be present sounds like the perfect formula for growth and happiness. Thank you so much for your time. This assignment has been so much fun! I loved getting to know you and getting comfortable.
